TICKETS ON SALE JULY 1st FOR UPCOMING DES MOINES PRODUCTIONS OF “CAUCUS! THE MUSICAL” AND “UTOPIA – THE IOWA MUSICAL REVUE”
DES MOINES, IA (June 28, 2011) – Right Brain Productions has announced that tickets will go on sale Friday, July 1st for both CAUCUS! THE MUSICAL and UTOPIA – THE IOWA MUSICAL REVUE, to be presented in Des Moines in December.
Both musicals – by Iowa-based playwright Robert John Ford – will be performed in repertory at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines’ 160-seat Stoner Theatre throughout the month of December. Twelve performances of CAUCUS! THE MUSICAL will be presented from December 8th through 31st, and ten performances of UTOPIA – THE IOWA MUSICAL REVUE will be presented December 15th through 31st.
Ticket sales for both productions begin July 1st. Tickets may be purchased at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines box office, through its website (www.civiccenter.org), or through Ticketmaster (online at www.ticketmaster.com or at all participating outlets). Ticket prices range from $20 for preview performances to $28 for regular evening and matinee performances. Discounts for groups (15 or more) are also available through the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines box office. Discounts are also available if tickets are purchased for both shows. All seating is general admission.
CAUCUS! THE MUSICAL – which gained international acclaim when it premiered in Des Moines in January 2008 prior to the presidential caucuses – is an irreverent and hilarious examination of the Iowa Caucuses and how a wide array of candidates will do anything to win the votes of a “typical” Iowa farm family. In its review, The Washington Post called it “the hottest new musical in the country,” and almost all of the 15 original performances were sold out. CAUCUS! THE MUSICAL is being updated for 2012 to reflect the current candidates and hot-button issues.
UTOPIA – THE IOWA MUSICAL REVUE features 16 independent sketches and songs that celebrate and poke a little fun at the unique people, places, and traditions of the great state of Iowa. Its premiere production in December 2010 received rave reviews, with several sketches generating a national cult following. The 2011 version will include some of the most popular sketches from the original version plus several new sketches and songs.
“We are so excited to be able to present both of these musicals celebrating Iowa at the same time in the same venue,” said Robert John Ford, playwright and producer. “At a time of year when many out-of-state visitors will be in the state for the caucuses or the holidays, this is the perfect family entertainment option for anyone wanting to get a taste of life in Iowa. And new material is being added to both shows to also appeal to audiences who’ve previously seen the shows.”
