Eric Layden (Ensemble Actor, Music Director) is the band director at Saydel High School in Des Moines, where he runs the marching band, jazz band, and concert band. He has been involved in local theater for several years, including performing in Young Frankenstein (Ziggy), Little Mermaid (Ensemble), and Ragtime (Father, all at the Des Moines Playhouse). Eric music directed the nationally recognized Adore Us! Line (Iowa Stage), and has also performed (either singing or playing piano for his beautiful and talented wife Taylor) at several late night cabarets at Noce.
Joe Smith (Production Manager) is a frequently seen local actor and loves to work backstage too. Recent roles include Bernie Sanders in Robert John Ford’s Adore Us! Line (Iowa Stage), Ernie in Neil Simon’s Rumors (Tallgrass Theater Company), Jon in Marjorie Prime (Stage West) and Tony Riley in Outside Mullingar (Stage West). Favorite past roles include Saul in True West, Mr. Smith in The Bald Soprano, Clown 1 in The 39 Steps, Mr. Lockhart in The Seafarer, Adam in As You Like It, Louis Howe in Sunrise at Campobello and Peter in Edward Albee’s The Zoo Story. Joe is married to actress Mary Bricker; they have two grown sons, Jeffrey and Carter. Joe works as a Marketing Communications Business Partner for UnityPoint Health System Services in West Des Moines. In his spare time, he enjoys travel, reading, writing, and tinkering with audio equipment.
Robert John Ford (Creator, Book & Lyrics) is an award-winning playwright, composer, lyricist and theatre producer whose plays have been produced throughout the country. He is a native of Iowa, where he still maintains his base and operates his own theatre production company RJFCreative and his own creative writing service Custom Songs & Scripts. His plays and musicals that have been previously produced in Des Moines include: Adore Us! Line (2020), Caucus! The Musical (2008, 2012, 2016), Utopia – The Iowa Musical Revue (2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2018), Six-On-Six: The Musical (2009, 2017), The World’s Largest Aluminum Foil Ball (2007), and Sleeping Dogs (2009). His songs have been performed at Carnegie Hall and at cabaret clubs in New York, Chicago, and Toronto by notable Broadway stars such as Jeremy Jordan and Laura Benanti. In 2012, he was selected to participate as a lyricist in the prestigious BMI Musical Theatre Workshop in New York and continues his involvement today. In June 2014, he was one of five artists selected to be an Iowa Arts Council Fellow in the inaugural year of the program. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, the Off-Broadway Theatre Alliance, ASCAP, the National New Play Exchange, and several writer's groups.
